How do you photograph weddings?

Before the big day, we'll discuss how to seamlessly fit photography into your wedding itinerary. About a month before, I will request a finalized timeline.

I arrive at least 15 minutes before your coverage start time to set up or begin taking detail shots. We usually start with getting ready and detail shots.

If you decide to do photos of your first look or reading letters, those would be next. Before walking down the aisle, I'll go there to get candids of guests and set up for your entrance. I stand at the front on the opposite side of your partner. My 2nd shooter is at the back to get another angle.

During the ceremony, we slowly move about to not draw attention to ourselves. If your venue has rules about where we're allowed to go, we follow them.

After the first kiss and exits, you may or may not have a receiving line. The officiant can announce beforehand if you want to opt out. As an alternative, especially if you have a higher guest count, you may want to greet guests at the reception before or after dinner.

After the ceremony, this is the best time to take family formal photos. Before your wedding I request a group shots list. Then we'll take the wedding party and couple photos at the ceremony site and/or at another location.

After we're done with formal pics, we'll go to the reception, take pics of guests, speeches and other candids.

Cake is usually cut after dinner, but venues may have you cut it before so they can hand it out after dinner.

After the meal, and either before or after you cut your cake, we can sneak out while plates are cleared and the dance floor's prepared. We can either get more couple shots or some gorgeous sunset photos.

After that, you may cut your cake, mingle with guests, or freshen up before your special dances. At this time, we'll set up our equipment.

Time for the first dance and parent dances. If the sunset is later, we may sneak out at this time. Next are anniversary dances or games. You can have your grand march before dinner or try to before coverage time ends.
